CRG Trec Competition

As this is your competition I thought it was only fair I kept everyone updated. Expressions of interest in helping or competing can be made here. (Lucy - nearer the time I'll ask if you can circulate an email to all members)

At the moment me and Karen are organising a meeting with Chris Paine who has kindly agreed to give us some help, (she organised the 2007 Welsh Trec Championships).
The idea is to hold an unaffiliated/training day first, less stress for you guys and less stress for the organisers!! It will be run under BHS rules
Numbers will be limited.
However the idea is taking hold and it should happen this summer. My land needs a bit more time to dry and then be chained/harrowed/rolled. After that we can sort out the specific course.
The only headache at the moment is the maps, it costs £54.75 to obtain a map licence from OS, before printing costs. If we could get a sponsor that would be great, otherwise I think it'll have to come out of the profits, maybe £1/£2 extra on peoples entry fees to cover this?
Cost - I have suggested a fee of £15 per competitor, is this fair?
Ideas are welcome!!

£15 is what we paid for the training day nr Narbeth so I think that's fair. I'm sure we could get sponsorship of some sort. If you need any help with anything just say

No, that sounds ok to me. I know loads of people who would love a training day, so I don't think filling places will be a problem.

Well Karen is organising a meeting with Chris so I should have more finalised details soon. My ground is drying very quicky so I might be able to have it sorted sooner than expected. My only problem now is AS levels...once they're out of the way it'll all systems go..
I may revise...a little.
I haven't actually been back, I'm having an extra long easter holiday...

Ok so, I met with Karen and Chris yesterday. They decided it was best to have a 'club only' practice/fun day first to see how things go, restricted to about 20 people or so.
It'll probs be at the earliest July. However I will be building my course from early June, so when finished you guys are welcome to come and have a play as I was intending to build some bits and bobs for my own practice anyway (there is a condition that you don't sue me!!)

When I suggested maybe another venue, Karen said mine was good (yay!) and it would highlight the fact there are NO BRIDLEWAYS there are still lots of horse riders wanting to use the area.

So..once again I'm waiting for the land to dry. Then treat that. Then we will be all systems go planning. Until its rolled etc we can't really see what we're dealing with...

Chris suggested small groups to go round the obstacles and have some practice/a play first as most won't have seen them before. We will need some people to give help and guidance, ( I offered, however I have a feeling people may object to being given advice from someone my age, 'less credible' as Chris put it. Although it's frustrating it's true...)

so that's as far as we've got I think...I'll add more if I've forgotten something

small update - the farmers are ready to chain harrow roll, if the weather can hold out for a few more days we'll have flat fields!
Also got 5 bases (not enough but a start) through the post. Idea being, I put posts in and set up low branches. I'll get Muffin's back looked at and then we'll go off exploring some routes...might take the car and then walk some...turning back is such a pain

I have emailed Ordnance Survery and hope they will allow us to print 20 maps for free as we will be giving map reading training. Its hoped that we can give half an hour or so explaining whats on a map with some pre reads sent before the day. Then you will be sent out in pairs along a course that will be marked at the turning points (just in case you wernt listening to the map lesson! or talking too much)

The ride will have to be done at a set speed to be decided. Which means you need to know how fast your horse trots and walks. Any way cover that later.

I will try and find someone to give map reading tuition but we do need some helpers on the day so if anyone can come with a partner or family member who can just help out at putting the obstacle course back when we knock it down or be a spotter on the beach to see you a few riders round. Lots of little jobs- no need to be horsey.

The whole emphasis is on a fun day with a TREC flavour for absolute beginners. Only open to members of the grouo for insurance purposes.

As soon as we set the date we will let u all know.
